Amid rumours that emerged on social media on Monday evening, suggesting that the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin is dead, multiple sources have dispelled the death rumours as the Chief Press Secretary to the major Yoruba monarch revealed that the news of the monarch's death was fake.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, debunked the death rumours, saying that the monarch is hale and healthy.

According to him, "The Olubadan just finished eating amala. He is hale and healthy. It is just a rumour. There is nothing of such."

Amala is a local African dish and delicacy relished among the Yorubas, especially the people of Ibadan land who also refer to the full course combination of the meal taken with ewedu and gbegiri, a sauce made from beans, as Abula.

OTN News further reports that another source in Oyo state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson, Michael Ogunsina,

said he spoke with the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Oyo State, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, who confirmed that the monarch is not dead.

The statement shared by a prominent X user, Akin Akinwale reads; “I just spoke with the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Oyo State, & he has confirmed to me that Kabiesi Olubadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin is alive, hale and hearty. Kindly ignore the purveyors of fake news. Olorun a bá wà di Baba mú.”

Ayoade aso debunked the rumour that the traditional ruler had been flown out of the town for medical attention.

“Baba is still in Ibadan. He was not flown anywhere. He is doing very fine," he added.

As the death rumours of the monarch is debunked by multiple sources, OTN News recalls that, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin was crowned as the 43rd Olubadan on July 12, 2024.

He succeeded the 42nd King Oba Mahood Lekan Balogun who died on 14 March 2024, aged 81.
