OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that a POS business operator, identified as Utibe Eteffia, in his early 30s, who hails from Ini Local Government Area, has tragically taken his own life after being defrauded of N2.5 million by cybercriminals, widely known as “Yahoo Boys.”

OTN News further reports as gathered that the incident occurred after the deceased was swindled by the criminals, who cleared out his account.

OTN News also learnt that the deceased had reportedly shared hints of his intentions on social media before his death.

According to neighbors, he had become withdrawn in the days leading up to the tragedy and was seen crying on several occasions.

A family source revealed that Eteffia had been struggling to find his footing in the current economic climate and had allegedly become involved with cybercriminals on social media in an attempt to make money.

He was, however, reportedly introduced to a “Yahoo-Plus” cult cartel and which he was ultimately duped after being initiated.

OTN News further learnt that before his death, Eteffia had visited his village and subtly inquired about church services, and requested financial assistance from his uncle, which he later expressed dissatisfaction with the amount offered.

Subsequently, he was later said to have attended church and, after everyone had retired for the night, he allegedly ingested a poisonous substance into his body, which his body was later discovered on the veranda the following morning.

However, the family has decided to delay the burial until the circumstances surrounding his death are fully understood.
