It was a tragic Thursday in Lagos as multiple road crashes on the Kara Bridge portion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of no fewer than four in multiple auto crashes, leaving commuters and motorists trapped in heavy duty traffic throughout the day and extending to the wee hours of the midnight.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the early-morning crash occurred when five trucks collided in a multiple accident on Kara Bridge at the Ogun-Lagos boundary.

The vehicles involved in the crash included a mini truck laden with cartons of biscuits, a heavy-duty long truck, a 40-foot containerized trailer, another truck carrying sardines, and a tow truck.

The collision caused heavy traffic gridlock as the trucks blocked all outbound lanes, prompting diversions and crowd control by emergency teams.

Confirming the casualties, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said, “Unfortunately, four fatalities occurred — all adult males, including a police officer. Two died at the scene, while the others were confirmed dead at the hospital."

In the aftermath of collision, many commuters were left stranded in heavy traffic gridlock as the trucks blocked all outbound lanes, prompting diversions and crowd control by emergency teams.

Olayinka, a trader who was caught in the traffic who spoke with (OTN) News correspondent lamented that the Abeokuta bound commuter bus she boarded from Idumota spent hours on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

"We spent hours on that Expressway. We were trapped in the heavy traffic gridlock since evening, and we did not get to Abeokuta until 3.30 am".

A driver who identified himself as World Best, told OTN News that the gridlock was horrifying, exposing drivers to so much stress and loss of money expended on purchase of fuel.

"I spent one of the longest hours I have ever spent on a Lagos to Abeokuta trip on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. How can one say that one has made any profit after burning so much fuel inside that heavy traffic?," he lamented.
