Lagos Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, Impeached, Replaced By First Female Speaker, Mojisola Meranda

Reports reaching the news desk of OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA OTN News have it that the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has been impeached by 32 members of the Lagos legislative chamber and swiftly replaced by Hon.Mojisola Meranda, who represents the good people of Apapa I Constituency, who was elected and subsequently sworn-in as the new Speaker.
Formerly the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, by her elected as the new Speaker, has today, made history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly.
OTN News further gathered that Hon. Fatai Mojeed, the Deputy Chief Whip, has been chosen as the new Deputy Speaker.
As of press time, the impeachment has been linked to a series of controversies surrounding Obasa, particularly concerning allegations of financial misconduct.
A tarse statement shared with Daily Champion, simply said, “Obasa has been impeached. The Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, is now the Speaker, and Fatai Mojeed has been elected as Deputy Speaker.
The impeached Speaker has been speaker of the Lagos state house of assembly for about a decade as he assumed office as Speaker in 2015.
The impeached Speaker, Obasa, who represents Agege State Constituency in 2007, has won election to the assembly four times in 2011, 2015 2019 and 2023.
