OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has cemented its place in African sports history by defeating Mali 78–64 to win a record-breaking fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women’s title, becoming the first African country ever to achieve such a feat.

OTN News further reports that in a gripping final clash, the Nigerian side showed championship grit and resilience after Mali opened the game with an aggressive start, taking the first quarter 26–21.

However, D’Tigress refused to be rattled, clawing back in the second quarter to level the momentum with a 20–15 comeback.

As the game progressed, the reigning champions turned up the heat, claiming the third quarter 20–15 and sealing their dominance with a decisive 17–8 final-quarter run, outpacing Mali on all fronts to lift their seventh AfroBasket title overall.

OTN News observes that the win not only extends Nigeria’s grip on African women’s basketball but also pushes their unbeaten run to 29 consecutive AfroBasket games, a streak that stretches back to 2015.

The victory showcases Nigeria’s rising power in global women’s basketball and reinforces the D’Tigress brand as Africa’s undisputed queens of the court.
