OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, famously known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has died at the age of 36 after spending two decades in a coma following a devastating car accident in London.

OTN News further reports as gathered that the news of his passing was confirmed on Saturday by his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, who took to social media platform X to share the heartbreaking announcement.

“With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today,” he wrote.

OTN News recalls that, Prince Al-Waleed slipped into a coma in 2005 at the age of 16 after sustaining a severe brain haemorrhage in a car crash while studying at a military college in the United Kingdom.

Following the accident, he was flown back to Saudi Arabia and admitted to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained under intensive care for 20 years.

Despite the bleak prognosis, the royal family, led by Prince Khaled, refused to give up hope. The prince’s father famously resisted repeated calls to withdraw life support, remaining steadfast in his belief that his son could one day recover.

Over the years, the young prince’s condition captured the hearts of many across Saudi Arabia and beyond.
