The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of an 80-year-old woman, Mariam Salako, following a fire outbreak on Saturday at 28 Ifelodun Ago Ka, Abeokuta.

As gathered by OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News, the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the incident occurred around 1:00am, with the cause of the fire yet to be determined.

“A distress call alerted the Area Commander to a fire at the Ago Ka area, and police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, with assistance requested from the Ogun State Fire Service,” Odutola said.

Firefighters responded swiftly and managed to contain the blaze, but Salako, who was inside the building, could not escape in time and tragically lost her life.

Meanwhile, a man identified only as Baba Ali, who was asleep during the incident, was rescued by neighbors through a window. His age remains unknown.

The police confirmed that Salako’s remains have been taken to the morgue as investigations continue.
