As part of our constitutional duties as a socially responsible media organization committed to the ideals of Development Communication

(DEVCOM), OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News has thought it prudent to openly commend the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and also join forces with the agency to enlighten and mobilize Nigerians to explore some of the strategic major initiatives and socio-economic intervention policies of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the renewed hope agenda exposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Background investigations by OTN News reveal that as at the time of this publication, there are no fewer than 12 major policies of the Federal Government which different strata of Nigerians can key into, explore and exploit to cushion the effects of current harsh socio-economic realities in the country.

According to official information made available by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), "the Federal Government is making bold decisions to yield long-term solutions for Nigeria’s persistent economic challenges, especially to cushion the effects of subsidy removal. It is implementing transformative policies while ensuring several relief measures, primarily targeting the youth, who constitute about 76% of Nigeria’s population. Nigerians are urged to take advantage of the ongoing government programs.

OTN News observes with utmost sense of professional judgement that indeed, the hopes of many Nigerians for a dream country where things work and government takes responsibility for the welfare of its citizenry have been terribly dashed while the psyche of millions of Nigerians have been damaged to a point of utter doubt, disbelieve and scepticism about anything good and truly beneficial to the masses coming from the government of the land.

However, unfolding developments in terms of government initiatives strategically crafted out to cater for the needs of various demographics in the Nigerian population such as students, especially tertiary students, workers, generality of consumers, artisans, nano business owners, small and medium scale enterprises, youths of oil exploration-affected Niger Delta area, digitally inclined tech savvy entrepreneurs, other indigenous entrepreneurs and large scale business owners are worth highlighting for optimal participation of Nigerians in the initiatives.

Using the Student loan as a reference point, OTN News reports that the scheme which is now being enjoyed by thousands of Nigerian students and benefiting tertiary institutions across the country was greeted with vehement criticisms from its outset, though some of though criticisms sharpened the re-enactment of the initial Bill sponsored by Senator Femi Gbajabiamila, giving birth to the Executive Bill that translated to the new Act governing the establishment and operations of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

As reported in several related but separate reports of OTN News, in recent times, the evidences are there that the initial clouds of doubts, skepticism, distrust, aparthy exhibited by Nigerian students towards the student loan scheme have gradually given way to a silver lining of renewed hope, high spirits and excitements among Nigerian students as students have not only been paid the N20,000 stipend but many benefiting tertiary institutions have confirmed receipt of payment of school fees for students who applied for the loan and got cleared accordingly.

While systemic corruption has been widely described as the bane of previous good government initiatives in Nigeria, it is pertinent for all Nigerians to shake off the shackles of utter pessimism and the awkward mindset that "Things can never work in this country," as many people often say offline and online.

On the contrary, consistent and committed engagements of all critical stakeholders, with constructive criticisms of government policies are the key to unlocking the dawn of a new Nigeria where things work and institutions function optimally in the execution of good initiatives and intervention programmes of the government.

On the whole, OTN News believes that it is not yet Uhuru for Nigeria as a country, but the country stands on the threshold of a new season of enjoying the dividends of democracy by the people despite the harsh socio-economic realities of the country at the moment.

OTN News reinforces the stand that a new Nigeria is possible and we, as a new blood multimedia organization, we remain openly and unapologetically committed to monitoring developments in and around these highlighted government intervention programmes, and we will not hesitate to blow the whistle as may be found necessary on any activity of any individual, group of persons or agencies found guilty of constituting a clog in the wheels of progress or success of these initiatives.

Our You-Report window remain open to Nigerians to share their experiences with us on unfolding developmental events across the country.
