OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police and appointed Tunji Disu as the new Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

OTN News further reports that President Tinubu’s announcement on Tuesday via a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, follows Egbetokun’s resignation, which he tendered citing family considerations.

Tunji Disu, a seasoned career officer with decades of operational and leadership experience, has been positioned to steer the force during a period of ongoing security challenges nationwide.

Olatunji “Tunji” Disu, born 13 April 1966 on Lagos Island, is a veteran police officer with more than three decades of service in the Nigeria Police Force.

His career spans roles in intelligence, operations, and command positions, including leading the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and rapid-response units.

Disu’s leadership is expected to prioritise strategic policing reforms, intelligence-led operations, and strengthened internal discipline.

His appointment is currently in acting capacity pending confirmation by the Nigeria Police Council and subsequent Senate approval.
