Stray Bullet Hits Journalist Inside Kano Government House on World Press Freedom Day

A journalist with Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), Naziru Idris Ya’u, was hit by a stray bullet inside the Kano State Government House at around 6 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Open Television gathered that the incident happened during an event to mark the World Press Freedom Day.

According to the victim, Naziru, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his arm and upon inspection, he saw a bullet lodged in his arm .

He thereafter managed to remove the bullet himself and was taken to the Government House clinic for medical attention .

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of journalists and potential threats to press freedom given the co-incidence of the incident with the day ear-marked for Press Freedom across the world.
