Fubara Finally Bows to Wike Pressure, Appoints New Chief of Staff, SSG

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has finally appointed a new Chief of Staff and also Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
OTN News further reports as gathered that the development was disclosed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, in Port Harcourt, on Thursday.
According to the statement, Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has appointed Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government ( SSG) and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff ( COS). Both appointments are with immediate effect.
“The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 pm today, Thursday February 26, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt,” the statement added.
OTN News recalls that the governor earlier sacked his aides, including former CoS, Edison Ehie and SSG, Dr Benibo Anabraba, following political crisis in the state and the Abuja “peace deal”.
OTN News further recalls that Fubara had had misunderstanding with the former state governor and now minister of the federal republic of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, which led to president Bola Tinubu, declaring state of emergency in River state.
However, shortly after the Abuja 'peace deal' and reconciliation between Fubara and Wike, the president clear the state off it state, which OTN News understands that it led to this development.
