The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has announced that the current waves of increased heat in the country will last for a while, hence Nigerians should adjust their lifestyles to taste to avoid dire negative impacts of the heat waves.

This weather report updates was contained in an official release from NiMET, the primary source for weather reports, climate news and natural events in Nigeria.

The climate and weather research and reports and research body gave advice to the public on how to handle the situation in a brief post on its official X page @ NimetNigeria.

It said: "Air Temperatures hit 41°C over the North and 39°C over the South with model Projections indicating temperatures to remain high in the coming days"

 IMPLICATIONS OF THIS INFORMATION

Dehydration: this could also cause fainting; chicken Pox disease, Measles, Heat Rash, weakness of the body, slight fever, and dry lips; Heat-Related Illnesses; Respiratory Issues; and Increased Vulnerability to chronic conditions.

Adequate fluid intake.

Seek shade, use fans, and wear light, breathable clothing to reduce exposure to high temperatures.

Avoid strenuous physical activity during peak heat hours (Stay indoors as much as possible between 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm evening time)

By this development, Nigerians are strongly advised to effect dietary lifestyle adjustments such as taking more fluids throughput the hot days, integrating consumption of fruits, especially water based fruits like cucumber and water melon in their diets.

People are also advised to effect corresponding changes to their wardrobes and preference of clothing fabrics they wear.
