OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, and Founder of Deeper Life Ministry, Pastor Kumuyi, have won the 2025 Yoruba Persons of the Year Award of Irohinodua.
OTN News further reports that this new development was disclosed in a statement signed by Mrs Feyisike Adeoye on behalf of the media outfit at the weekend, Irohinodua, the first pan Yoruba news online established in 2010.
The media group who also said that the decade-old award is given every year to the most distinguished Yoruba personalities, explained that the two clergymen jointly won the 2024 Yoruba Persons of the Year.
According to the statement by the Editorial Board of the online media, Kumuyi and Adeboye, throughout the year 2024, distinguished themselves in the service of God, preaching love and promoting peace across the world.
The group explained that there is no other person(s) of Yoruba heritage across the world in 2024 that controlled so much influence in the spread of love and peace throughout the entire globe as the two leaders.
“The year 2024 was a fragile era in Nigeria. There were threats of violence and social unrest, and ethnic hatred and fury took centre stage. Even across the world and in Nigeria, the space was riddled with violence, hate, vengeance and human mystery. This was compounded by the fallout of the National elections in the previous year. These two individuals with their words and deeds continued to profess love, peace and brotherhood, not only in Nigeria but across the world,” the statement added.
Irohinoodua who futher explained that Nigeria in particular witnessed an upsurge in violence and disaffection, driven by faith and ethnicity, said that Adeboye and Kumuyi instead stirred the whirlwind of harmony in every part of the world where their religious institutions have strongholds.
The group noted that while others used religion to advance hatred and parochial political and ethnic goals, Kumuyi and Adeboye converted their multiple platforms to the advancement of peace and good neighbourliness.
Irohinoodua, however, added that though the two individuals came under vicious and violent attacks from their opponents, but their responses were measured, cultured and propelled by Godliness.
Adeoye said even though the two hold no political positions, their stars continue to shine all over the world to the glory of the Yoruba nation.
